Dentist Framingham | What to Expect from the Dentist When You’re Expecting

If you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or think that you might be, you should let your dentist know as soon as you can. Your life is about to get very busy, and you may not have time for a cleaning and exam or to have a cavity once the baby arrives.

It’s also a good idea to tell our dentists that you are pregnant, especially if you are having a high-risk pregnancy, since the dentist may decide to postpone certain treatments until after the baby comes. However, if you need essential dental work done while you are pregnant, the best time to do it is between 13 and 21 weeks of your baby’s development. Your dentist may also want to postpone dental X-rays, or provide you with an apron or thyroid collar.

During your pregnancy your body will undergo hormonal changes. Those changes can put you at an increased risk of gum disease. You may also notice overgrowths on your gums that resemble raspberries. They are known as pregnancy tumors. While the name may sound scary, they are benign, and your dentist can easily remove them.

Pregnancy means morning sickness, and that of course means vomiting. When that occurs, rinse your mouth with water, and wait thirty minutes before brushing so that your saliva has time to neutralize the acids from your stomach that are in your mouth.

If you are expecting, you should call our dentists, Drs. Maddahi and Singh for an appointment for a cleaning and exam. If you live in the Framingham, Massachusetts area, you can schedule your visit to Orris Dental by calling 508-270-6770.
