Generally, you would want to be examined minimally every six months for preventive services, but it also depends on your individual circumstances. You may visit your dentist whenever you have a concern about your oral health.
There are many scientific literatures available that indicate your oral health can be seen as a mirror of your general health. Some dental problems may reflect issues in other parts of your body, and vice versa. Solid scientific articles discuss thoroughly the evidence of, for example, untreated oral infections can lead to poorer control of diabetes, an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease, and complications during pregnancy. General dentists are trained to identify these and other issues, and offer appropriate treatment or referral when needed. One special concern is obstructive sleep apnea that can sometimes be treated with an oral appliance.
General dentists can also offer nutritional counseling, advice on tobacco cessation and general health and wellness information.

Children’s Dentistry
Protect your child’s teeth by starting dental checkups early. The first dental visit should occur when the baby’s first tooth appears but no later than the child first birthday. Dr. Maddahi can show you how to clean your child’s teeth, talk about feeding, oral habits and recommend dental care products. Having a well-baby checkup at this age also connect your child to a dental home.
